The Government of Canada recognizes that Francophone communities are important for the overall and economic well-being of Canada.
The Action Plan for Official Languages 2023–2028: Protection-Promotion-Collaboration allocates $4 million over five years, through the Economic Development Initiative, to FedNor for eligible projects in Northern Ontario. The funding is designed to support business and economic development activities that develop new expertise in innovation, economic diversification and business growth in Northern Ontario's Francophone communities (official language minority communities) and capitalize on economic opportunities made possible through linguistic duality.
