Sylvain Brisson is on a mission to change the mining industry.

With nearly 40 years of experience in the industry, Brisson, president and founder of North Bay-based Drillco Mining and Exploration, has spent the last decade looking to shake it up. His knowledge, expertise and ambition has helped garner international attention for Drillco’s diamond core clean-tech modular drilling system.

Since 2013, Drillco Mining and Exploration has designed, modeled, engineered, prototyped and started testing the industry's first diamond core clean-tech modular drilling system that is capable of performing mineral drilling work on the three standard applications - surface, underground and heli-portable (fly-in). Built from the ground up, Drillco’s modular drilling system uses advanced, clean technology to increase energy efficiency by up to 30% compared to other systems on the market.

Brisson credits FedNor’s multiple investments over the course of the last several years for bringing his vision to life. Speaking from his booth in the Northern Ontario Mining Showcase (NOMS) at the 2024 edition of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada’s (PDAC), he acknowledged how far he has come from that initial vision.

“This is a dream.”

For Brisson, participating in NOMS has been a game-changer. He estimates that nearly 80% of all sales for his company have stemmed from PDAC and his participation in NOMS, with Drillco products ending up all over the world.

The Northern Ontario Mining Showcase was a big hit with attendees at this year’s edition of the convention.

The international flavour of PDAC is a key part of what makes participating in NOMS so attractive. “To be part of a delegation that attracts these people, they would otherwise not know who you are. So, it gives you the opportunity to meet these people and introduce yourself.”

Drillco was one of 112 exhibitors featured in the FedNor-funded NOMS pavilion at PDAC 2024. As one of the world’s leading mineral and exploration conferences and trade shows, PDAC takes place in Toronto every March and attracts more than 30,000 attendees from 130+ countries.
